School-aged children and Tempe seniors connected through the Pen Pals for Seniors program at Ward Traditional Academy, in which they wrote back and forth about their lives, interests and the fourth grade class’s pet hamster. Almost 250 letters later, the fourth grade students met their pen pals in person for the first time May 9.
The meeting took place at the senior living center Friendship Village Tempe and was the first in-person event since the COVID-19 pandemic.
