An area senior living resident and her “pen” show no signs of slowing down
At Friendship Village Tempe, active seniors are the norm. Yet even this vibrant, active retirement community in Tempe, might surprise you when you learn a prominent author lives there – and is still churning out page turners.
Charlotte Whitney, Friendship Village resident and author of the popular 2019 Depression-era novel Threads, is at it again with the release of her second non-fiction offering, The Unveiling of Polly Forrest.
Whitney, a former University of Michigan faculty member, dabbled in nonfiction during her working days, including a self-help book.
“I didn’t really think about writing nonfiction in those days,” she recalled.
As for her friends and neighbors at Friendship Village, they say she’s a natural.
“We’ve promoted it pretty well,” said executive director Cole Marvin. “We love promoting stories about our residents. It just so happens that this resident tells stories!”
Whitney’s latest work hit shelves and online stores on March 15, but she said they’ve just begun the promotion process.
“We’re already seeing some great reviews and I just learned it’s one of 14 books featured on the cover of Publisher’s Weekly,” she said.
