As you get older, it’s important to stay active. But finding a workout that’s both fun and challenging can be tough. And let’s be honest. Some of us are allergic to the word “exercise.” So how do we stay active, get fit and have fun when we just don’t have the passion it takes to go for a swim or hit the exercise room? Pickleball for seniors.
Is pickleball good exercise? You bet your backhand it is! We realize not everyone knows what pickleball is, even though it is one of the fastest growing sports around. Quite simply, pickleball is a paddle sport that combines the best elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis. But is pickleball good for seniors? Yes. In fact, it’s a great way to get your heart rate up, improve your balance and coordination, and have fun all at the same time.
Here are just a few of the benefits of pickleball:
If you’re a senior who’s looking for a fun and active way to stay healthy, pickleball just may be the answer.
- It’s low impact.
What makes pickleball good for seniors is its low-impact game play. It’s not as fast-paced as tennis, so it’s easier on your joints (we like to be good to our joints around here). Even if you have arthritis or other health issues, you can still enjoy the game. - It’s fun.
Like to laugh at yourself and your friends? Grab a paddle and get on the court. You’ll soon forget all about the fact that this is a sport and that you’re getting a good workout in. You know what they say. Laughter is good for you, too. - It’s social.
Sure, pickleball is good exercise, but It’s more than that. This is a social sport. Many pickleball courts even have designated times for singles and doubles matches. This is a great way to meet new people and make friends. - It gets you outdoors into the sunlight.
Another benefit of pickleball is that it gets you outside and into the sunlight where your body can get a jolt of healthy vitamin D levels. Not only that, but you’ll enjoy a bit of fresh air as you enjoy your work out (if you can even call it that when you’re having so much fun).
